Growth Spurt

Quietly, unobtrusively, we have slipped into another phase in the growing season. On Thursday evening we had a wonderful big rain here at Zsámbok. Very often rain showers just pass us by, as we are in a kind of dry corridor, but this time we got the full benefit of the rains. We can almost see the growth happening before our eyes. Since the rain the weather has shifted into a warmer bracket, so that suddenly what seemed like arrested growth in the garden from the cool spring, is erupting into new growth. The weeds are poised to jump ahead, although until now we have done a good job at keeping them in check. From here on we are into the familiar routine of sowing, planting, hoeing, and before long harvesting.
