Végre a héten sikerült haladnunk az szabadföldi ágyások előkészítésével és vetésével, illetve a fóliasátrakban és a melegágyásokban is. Az időjárás most nagyon kedvező a héten, a múlt heti esőzések után kicsit kiszáradt a talaj, hogy tudjunk már rajta dolgozni. A Zsámboki Biokert nehéz talajösszetétel miatt óvatosan kell bánnunk a föld megművelésével, amikor a talaj vizes, sáros, mivel így könnyen összetömörödhet, mely pedig egyáltalán nem kedvez a növények optimális fejlődésének. Ha összehasonlítjuk a talajt szomszédainkkal, azt látjuk, hogy talajunk a magasabb szervesanyag tartalom miatt sokkal jobban megtartja a vizet, amely viszont nagyon kívánatos a szezon során. Ez azt jelenti, hogy lassabban szárad ki a föld a megműveléséhez, ugyanakkor a magas szervesanyag tartalom megvédi a talajt a sérülésektől, ha a körülmények nem ideálisak. Nagyon nagy öröm nekünk végre kinn dolgozni a szabadban, előkészíteni és vetni!
Finally, this week we have been able to make good progress with outdoor bed preparations and sowings, as well as sowings in the polytunnels and propagation area. The weather these last few weeks have sometimes made progress a bit variable, but this week we have mostly had good weather, with the ground drying out enough to work on the land. With our fairly heavy soil at Zsámboki Biokert, we always need to be careful to avoid going onto the land when it is wet or damp, as this can easily result in compacting the soil, which creates the wrong conditions for plant growth. If we compare our soils with our neighbours, we are seeing that with the higher levels of organic matter in our soil, the soil holds onto water, which throughout the growing season is a benefit. It means that it takes slighly longer to dry out for cultivations, but also the higher organic matter levels protect the soil from damage, if conditions are not ideal. It is honestly a pleasure to be able to get outside to work on the beds and start getting crops into the ground!
