Peace and Quiet

Quiet times on the farm. We often get asked - "and so what do you do in winter". The answer is that the winter quiet period for us is much shorter than most people think. It is an important time to rest and recharge. We work pretty much full on up until Christmas Eve. We then have about a month of quiet. The most important task during this time is to decide on the production plan for the coming season and prepare seed orders. From the middle of January we start to prepare hotbeds and schedule the first seedling sowings in the propagation tunnel. From then on it is a gradual increase in task right through to spring, as the days get slightly longer and the light increases that's how the pace quickens. Hardly noticeable at first but then it gets overwhelming very soon. Knowing this cycle we do certainly enjoy the quiet, restful days we have now.
